Its true the kung-fu is the start. I'll tell you the history. The monk "dharuma thaichi" brought the taichi from india to china. Legends say that he had come to the Sri lanka also. Then he stayed at Shaolin temple and taught thaichi to them, its the start of the kung-fu. later on they brought kung-fu to Japan and other neibour countries. So Japan has the origin of kung-fu little bit. also Japanease had their own martial arts from the okinawans. Its vary from the village to village. those styles were named by their own villages name.Then tha japanease which are intelligent formed a their own martial art 'karate' modifying all thease.
Although the kung-fu is more than a martial art it has several drawbacks. kung-fu is not a practical martial art. Its like a dance
1. Karate is a practical game. the techniques could be applied at a sudden attack or street fighting.
2. It don't introduce artificial, non-realistics techniques like other martial arts.. it developes the natural actions of the body in a effective way. so its aceivable at a sudden.
3. Karate is a scientific game. it uses the body weight and the dynamic energy of the body effectively to increase the power of techniques.
4. it increase the concentraion of the mind. it trains the body to behave paralel with the mind, and karate develops one's pesonality and the charachtor.
5. Though the karate is a hard game it can be trained by any sort of person according to their requirements. it need not a full time dedication.(but to be mastered u want to dedicate full time).People who are in other proffessionals also can find a time to train karate. thats why it has been so popular all over the world.
6. Karate has a great philosopy. and it has a standarad grading style.
7. karate is also a sport.
Though i have practiced martial arts from my school age i started leran the karate regularly at the university. My style is Wado-Ryu-Karate do, one of four leading karate styles in the world. Its the way of peace. I am a brown belt holder. My master is sensei W.M. Senevirathne , a 3rd dan black belt holder, and the chief instructor of the organization.Our dojo is the university gymnasium, a wooden dojo, ideal for karate.
MY ACHEIVEMENTS
1. winning the Bronze medal at the 29th central province games for the karate(kumite) under 80kg category.
2. winning the first place at inter faculty karate tournement in 80kg category.
3. winning the first place at the central province katare championship 2003 organized by karate do federation under 80 k.g. category
4. winning the 3rd place at kata event at same tournement.
5. participated 3rd international shotokan karate championship representing university of peradeniya.
6. won the university colours for karate in year 2003
7. The vice captain of karate for year 2004
