Foreward:
This extensive
Housing Workshop, commemorating the International Year of
Shelter for the Homeless (IYSH), observed in 1987,
is jointly organized
by the Building Center of Japan (BCJ), Japan Housing Association,
and the Ministry of Construction, Japan. The particiaption
is subject to selection by a committee. Successful candidates
are invited to join a 8 day spree of site visits and seminars
in and around Tokyo. All expenses are paid by a grant fund
established with the purpose of promoting housing qualititavely
and quantitatively in the underdeveloped countries.
When I said the word spree, I meant it literally. We visited
eight different housing and research sites in Greater Tokyo
and Neighboring Tochigi Prefecture. There's not much to write,
rather is a lot to see. I'll be pasting pictures taken during
the workshop in the following. I wish I could make the presentation
I did when I cam back from there. Oh yes, the workshop ended
with a paper submission and debate session att he premise.
The visited sites were European Type Makuhari Housing in Chiba,
Renewal of Taishido township at Setagaya, Urban renewal project
at T's Hill, Old Town of Tochigi, UDC Building Research Center
near Tama, Satelite Tama New Town, Sakura Zutsumi Housing,
Sekisui Prefab Factory, and UDC research headqurter near Yasukuni
Jinja.
