Guided by the planet Uranus, Haruka first appeared with Michiru in Sailor Moon S. Haruka can be described as boyishly handsome, because she looks like a boy! She wears a male school uniform, a blazer and pants. She has trouble confessing, but she tells Usagi and Minako she is a girl when they got crushes on her, and she kept teasing them about it. Haruka is a professional race car driver, as well as a track star. She and Michiru to Gakuen High School, where they are often seen together. She has a relationship with Michiru, an intimate one. Haruka is the "man" of the relationship.

As Sailor Uranus, she is the largest and the strongest of all the Sailor Senshi. She acts first, thinks later in her battles. She is the carrier of the Space Sword, one of the 3 talismen needed to form the Holy Grail. She later uses her space sword to generate one of her most powerful attacks.

Sailor Uranus's fuku is a dark blue skirt, collar, choker, a golden yellow bow in the front with a dark blue button, a dark blue bow in the back, and a gold hoop earring on her left ear. When she becomes Super Sailor Uranus, her button becomes a heart, her sleeves have a transparent cap, and the bow on the back becomes longer, there is a star on her choker, she has a hoop earring on each ear, and a white stripe on her collar. She wears ankle high dark blue boots and gloves reaching past her wrists with a dark blue trim. Her tiara has a dark blue jewel in it.
