THE
PACIFIC ISLANDER EDUCATOR NETWORK
The Pacific Islander
Educator Network (PIEN) is sponsored by Youth
Outreach United, a 501.C3 non-profit organization.
Youth Outreach United
has sponsored a number of events in the Pacific Islander Community, including
the American Samoa Youth Flag Day in April and the annual South Pacific Games
athletic event.
The purpose of PIEN is to
enlist the collaborative efforts of existing Pacific Islander community based
organizations and educators to better meet the educational needs of our
students.
PIEN has established the
following goals:
_ To identify existing
resources to assist school administrators, counselors, teachers, and classified
personnel who work with the 37,000 Pacific Islander students in California.
_ To develop an on-line and
written resource guide for schools featuring scholarship opportunities,
counseling services, employment agencies, health care agencies, after-school
programs, college and university outreach, and mentoring and leadership training
for Pacific Islander students.
_ To create a network among
Pacific Islander educators, non-Pacific Islander educators who serve Pacific
Islander students, and community-based organizations to better identify and
serve the needs of Pacific Islander students.
_ To develop a professional
network for Pacific Islander educators.
