THE PRESIDENT'S CORNER Brian Carter, KCØDWX Last month Laurie Harrison (KCØKTY) presented us with a bit of information and asked for volunteers with the Civil Emergency Response Team program that Riley County is working on. John Skare (NØPVT) also shared his 'beefed up' survival kit that he carries. Field Day locations were discussed with the group narrowing down the number of possible locations. For our March 12 meeting Frank Gose (KCØLUG) will present us with information on and relating to the X-Prize competition. In short this competition is for the first team that can build a craft that is capable of carrying 3 passengers to an altitude of 100 kilometers (62.5 miles) and return safely as well as repeat this in a certain amount of time. It should prove to be an interesting topic. As usual the meeting will be at 7:30 P.M. at 2601 Anderson Ave. We will also meet at the Sirloin Stockade around 5:30 for dinner. I hope to see you there. ARRL DUES NEW FROM ARRL - Beginning October 1, 2001, our club will receive $15 for each new member joining the ARRL through our club. This is for new members or those who have not been a member for two or more years. There will be no commission for renewals but we still may submit your renewals, if you wish. Since the club retains the dues, it is necessary for you to write your check to MAARS, and then the treasurer writes a check to ARRL. MAARS DUES Dues will be due by Oct. 31 and are: regular membership $20, full-time student $10, family $30. Please complete the following when renewing your membership, even if you did so last year. Return to the Treasurer, at a meeting or to MAARS, P. O. Box 613, Manhattan, KS 66505-0613.
