Fly me to the moon

DM/HG   PG

Summary – One shot.  Inspired by the song.  The Dinah Washington version, not the Sinatra version, although they are the same song.  The whole mood is different in Dinah’s song, but it’s harder to find.  I love this song.  I am one of those people who can make something out of certain lyrics.  I’m not saying I like all the songs or artist listed within this fic.

Disclaimer- (looks in mirror) I’m nobody.  I don’t own a frigging thing.  Sue me, I dare you.  The only thing that’s mine is the idea.  I borrowed everything else.

            ‘Merlin, she’s singing it again.’

He listened to the voice singing the same song for the third night this week.  In the beginning of the year, the song grated on his nerves.  Now the song was strangely soothing.  But was it the lyrics, or the melodic voice that sang along?

Fly me to the moon

Let me sing among the stars

Let me see what spring is like

            On Jupiter and Mars

The head girl was in her quarters singing along to the enchanted CD player she had smuggled into Hogwarts.  He had been half tempted to tell one of the professors about it and get her in trouble.  But as the year progressed, it seemed kind of childish.  Now they were more or less allies, at least when in the same room.

It also helped that Hermione played decent music.   The first few days she had played Slipknot.  The first two weeks it had been nothing but Eminem.  After what he knew was an extraordinarily bad day in Potions, he was surprised to hear the familiar riffs of Slayer’s Can’t Stop the Violence. One night he heard Britney Spears’ ‘Toxic’.  He quickly realized that her choice of music matched her mood.  There were a few times where he heard something he didn’t recognize.

Fly me to the moon was one that she listened to over and over again a couple of nights a week.  After much searching in the library, he found that the woman, who Hermione was singing along with, had been called Dinah Washington.  He had read through the lyrics, and a smile was upon his face.

In other words hold my hand

In other words darling, kiss me

Everyone hears the lyrics.  Some people can hear a story in the words, while some don’t;  Some people can take the lyrics and say ‘this song changed my life’; some people hear a song and say that it’s nothing but a combination of words that sounds good together.

Hermione was obviously one of those people who could feel the emotions behind the words. And she was one of those people who believed in what the words said.  When she was happy, her songs were too, however, when she was angry, the music was dark and foreboding.

Draco was one of these types too.  He carried a small device that fit in his robes pockets and had an enchanted earpiece.  He never sang along, or danced along.  It was just a constant comfort to sooth his troubled soul.  He usually preferred the darker music, like Lamb of God,Rammstein ,and Mudvayne.  They better suited his dark mood.

            Fill my heart with song

Let me sing for ever more

You are all I long for

            All I worship and adore

When she was listening to this song, it usually meant that she was happy, at least on the outside.  When he heard her singing, he could actually feel her singing the lyrics.  He saw the meaning behind the words and took them as a silent plea.

It was time he did something about it.  Without even thinking about the consequences he grabbed his broom from the corner where it sat, he opened up the window of his balcony, and stepped onto his broom.

            The weather was perfect.

He hovered the few feet to her balcony and watched her for just a moment.  She was dancing with an invisible partner to the music, and her eyes were closed as she sang along.

He softly tapped on the glass of the window and she opened the door, not trying to hide her confusion.  “What are you doing Malfoy?”

“I thought that maybe you were ready for that flight to the moon, or, at least, as close as I can get.”  Draco told her.

She gazed into his eyes, and smiled.  She took his proffered hand and climbed upon his broom.  He took off quickly, enjoying the way that she giggled and pulled him closer.  He flew into the sky until they were high above Hogwarts.  The moon was full and the both stared in awe at its beauty.

In other words, please be true

In other words, I love you

Draco shifted, just slightly on the broomstick.  He smiled at Hermione as he reached a hand to cup her face.

He slowly pulled her lips forward into a perfect kiss.
