I remember sitting on your lap
Eating ice cream
While watching tv
Until I had to go to bed.
You taught me to make eggnog
Along with how you liked toast
I know these things seem silly now,
At least they would to most.
You showed me how to drive
Along with how to love
Just seeing someone else's grandpa
Will surely bring on a flood.
All the little girls out there
Have someone else like you
And when that person goes
They'll suffer just like I do.
You won't see me married
Won't get to hold my child
There's so much you'll miss
Once you're gone.
There will be an empty seat
At my graduation
An empty place
At my dinner table
Things just won't be the same
Without you being around
Nobody can ever take your place
No matter who I've found.
I only hope my father
Can honestly be
Half the grandpapa
You've been to me.
