Battle Flag of the Confederacy
This was the first flag to be adopted by the Confederate States of America. It had 7 white stars in the blue field, one for each state at the time they adopted the flag. The Stars and Bars was first raised over the capitol building in Montgomery, Alabama on March 4, 1861. Today the United Daughters of the Confederacy use the flag as their flag. However they have added 6 stars to make the total 13.
The Stars and Bars looked so similar to the U.S. flag it often cause confusion. On May 1, 1863 Confederate Congress Adopted this new flag
The Second National Flag because of all the white sometimes was mistaken for a flag of truce. On March 4, 1865 a new flag was adopted. They place a red stripe on the side. This flag would become the Last Flag of the Confederacy. A few days later Congress would adjourn . The Flag was not actually made until later. Today the Flag is used by the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
This flag was also adopted because the Confederate thought they needed a way to be able to tell between U.S. and C.S soldiers. Adopted September 1861 this flag could not be mistaken for any other flag. It was used in 3 sizes. Artillery 38" x 38" Infantry 52" x 52" Cavalry 32" x 32" note: this flag is completely square. The rectangular one would be the Navy Jack.

The Bonnie Blue Flag
This is the only picture I have with the Bonnie Blue Flag in it. It was used as a secession banner. All the flags of the Confederacy are remarkable. There are many other versions that were used by different companies and Regiments. All of them very unique in their own way. None the less they are the flags of our ancestors. Flags that we should be proud of.
