MADISON, Wis. -- The Gogebic Community College Samsons rebounded for a cold start to down Joliet 99-85 in the Wolfpack Classic here Friday.

The Samsons play the Rochester, Minn.-Madison Tech winner at 4 p.m. today for the Wolfpack championship.

"We were down 20-3 and were ice cold when Kyle Rundman entered the game and hit three straight 3-pointers," said GCC coach Deke Routheaux.

The Samsons, 2-1, got 36 points from John Lane, 13 from Drew Paquin, 12 from Rundman and Matt Hagen added 11.

Routheaux said a key was the fact that while GCC was down 10 rebounds at halftime, it rebounded on par with Joliet in the second half.

"It was a good team effort and we received some great play from the bench. Brandon Kelly and Paquin handled the point well and responded to Joliet's pressure," he said.

Joliet women 80, GCC 64

The Lady Samsons fell to 1-1 as they trailed by five around halftime and could never catch up.

"We played a good team and did not handle their press well," coach Dennis Mackey said.

"The key stat was our 0-13 shooting on 3-pointers," he added.

Kristen Ruppe had 29 points (12-16 from the field) and Nichole Mazurek added 15, but no one else neared double figures for the Lady Samsons.

Jenna Barghahn led the Lady Wolves with 22 points, including six 3-pointers.

The GCC women play Madison Tech this morning for third place at 10.
