MANITOWOC, Wis. -- Gogebic Community College sophomore Nichole Mazurek scored 17 points and had 11 rebounds in the Lady Samsons' 72-36 win at Silver Lake College Wednesday.

"Nichole had a strong start and scored our first eight points," said GCC coach Dennis Mackey. "All our girls played well. Silver Lake packed their zone in around our big players. That forced our outside shooters to step up and they did."

Sophomores Kristen Ruppe and Janey Routheaux added 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the 8-6 Lady Samsons. Three other GCC players scored between 7 and 9 points.

GCC was in control the entire game, leading 37-14 at halftime.

"Silver Lake was a little undermanned -- suiting up just seven players. We played a pressure defense through the first half and into the second," said Mackey.

The Lady Samsons shot 41 percent from the field and outrebounded the Lakers 45-34.

Lindsay Rozmarynoski led the Lakers with 22 points.

Mackey hope the Lady Samsons will improve on their 20 turnovers as they head to play the University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan tonight.
