2004 ***** 137 mins.
Turning William Makepeace Thackeray's nearly 900 page novel into a less than 2 and a half hour long film is a tricky thing to do. This film does it very, very well, though.
Reese Whitherspoon plays Becky Sharp, a young woman at the turn of the 19th century, who has dreams and ambitions. Of course, those dreams and ambitions come at a price. The ins and outs of the plot are way to complicated to explain here. Just do yourself a favor: see this wonderful, beautiful film. Although, it's nowhere near the quality of Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon, it's still fantastic.
Rated PG-13 for some sensuality/partial nudity and a brief violent image.
