JESUS CHRIST
SUPERSTAR
1973 ***** 107 mins.
The motion picture of Jesus Christ, Superstar is a wonderful experience. Norman Jewison took the film to Israel to film on location. The result is a true masterpiece of motion picture making. The film stars Ted Neeley in the role of Jesus Christ and Yvonne Elliman as Mary Magdalene. Taking the music from the original album and the stage show, the film gives the story its own dramatic flare. The film begins with the players arriving to their location in a bus. On top of this bus is all of their props. They unload the props, don their attire, and act out the story of the last couple of weeks of Jesus's life. Being a rock opera, the whole story is told through the songs and the images. Jesus Christ, Superstar is a film that should never be forgotten.
Rated G; though it contains some questionable images.
