GONE WITH THE WIND

1939 ***** 233 mins.

There is no denying it: Gone with the Wind is one of the greatest motion pictures ever made. The film is nearly four hours long, but it holds its viewer relentlessly for every minute of those four hours. The cinematography is absolutely gorgeous, and no matter how cheesy the dialogue may be, it works beautifully. Only Vivien Leigh could pull off the final line: "Tomorrow is another day!"

Set during the Civil War, this film casts Vivien Liegh as Scarlett O'Hara, a girl who could have any guy she wanted, except the one she really wants! Leslie Howard plays Ashley Wilkes, the man Scarlett really loves, but who is married to the beautiful Melanie (Olivia de Havilland). After going through two husbands in the course of the story, Scarlett finally marries the man who has popped in and out throughout the whole story: Rhett Butler (Clark Gable).

The story of this film progresses with the greatest of ease, and this film will forever be one of the best motion pictures ever made.
