2003 ***** 130 mins.
This is a remarkable film about two young boys, one of whom grows up to be the biggest gangster in the title location, while the other grows up to discover that such stories can be told in a better, more artistic way. This film is just that: artistic. The raw power of this film is equaled only by the artistic quality of this film, both of which are top notch and unlikely to be surpassed any time soon. I have two words for all of you reading this: see it. Filmed in Brazilian Portuguese.
Rated R for strong brutal violence, sexuality, drug content, and language.
