QUALIFYING: Bill Elliott started on the Pole for The Winston with a speed of 142.084mph. Rusty Wallace started in 16th position with a speed of 137.694mph. RACE: Jeff Gordon was the leader for the first segment of the race, but after the segment the top four cars were inverted. Mark Martin was the leader for the second segment. After this segment all of the cars on the lead lap came into the pits. Gordon and a few others changed only two tires, but Martin and the rest changed four. Gordon took a big lead over the rest of the field. Martin had started the third segment in 6th position, but fought his way to third and then passed Bobby Labonte for second. Gordon was on his way to winnning The Winston for the third time when his car ran out of gas on the final lap! Martin passed him and won his first Winston! Gordon was the only car to run out of gas and Gordon said his car running out of gas was a "pretty embarrassing" situation.
