Kamen Rider Ryuki first aired in Japan on Feruary 3, 2002. It is the 12th television entry (not including movies and specials) in Toei Productions long running Kamen Rider (Masked Rider) franchise created by the late Shotaro Inishimori. The "Episode Final" movie was released August 17, 2002. The "13 Riders" TV special aired September 19, 2002. |

THE STORY: |

|
|
There is a "Mirror World" that exists in a parallel universe to our own. It is an exact copy with the exception that it is inhabited by monsterous beings rather than human. The monsters of the Mirror World have the ability to cross over into our world, but only for a short time period. Their intention is to take human beings to the other side and absorb them as energy. The monsters grow stronger, creating a major threat to human existance.
The attacks on humans begin to increase. It seems the Mirror World is in danger of collapsing and disappearing forever. This makes the monsters become more vicious in their cause. Shiro Kanzaki (Kenzaburo Kikuchi) is a scientist who dicovers a way to cross over into the Mirror World. Shortly thereafter Shiro vanishes mysteriously, but soon reappears, handing out 13 powerful card decks to selected individuals. These Advent Card decks allow the owners to become "Masked Riders", warriors with the ability to cross over to the Mirror World for a limited amount of time. There are certaian rules set by Shiro Kanzaki. The Rider must make a "contract" with a monster from the Mirror World. The 13 Riders must fight one another until there is one left standing. That Rider will be given a wish of their choosing. Who will be the last Rider to open "The Final Door"? |

It is upon investigating an apartment formerly owned by Shiro that Shinji Kido, the junior journalist for the ORE Internet News Service, finds one of the Advent card decks. Soon Shinji has the ability to sense the presence of the monsters of the Mirror World. When a spider-like monster attacks his colleague, Reiko Momoi, Shinji is suddenly transported into the Mirror World via a reflection coming off of a car. He is not alone fore another Rider was alerted to the monsters appearance. This other Rider is Ren Akiyama. Rider Knight! |

Once in the Mirror World, Shinji is like a fish out of water. He has become a Masked Rider by accident! After trying to use the Advent Cards unsuccessfully, Rider Knight steps in to finish the monster off. Shinji is told that the only way to survive in the Mirror World is to make a contract with a monster. Later another monster appears. Shinji will not let the human race be attacked so easily. The monster Dragreder appears, a contract is made, and Masked Rider Ryuki is born! |
