When he was 40,
James Tyrell had the election for Colonial Magistrate rigged. Soon after, he was elected, “gaining” nearly 90%
of the vote. Within 8 years, he ran some
policies which made quite a few people unhappy.
He overturned any decision made by the Colonial Council which he
disagreed with. He started to encourage
people to emigrate out into the Lylat System, despite the fact that they had
been living secure, happy lives while being hidden from the rest of the system. When the Androssian Empire discovered them,
Emperor Andross was interested to see what he could benefit from them. An alliance was discussed. Many citizens of the colony were angry that
Tyrell had just thrown their isolationism policy into the stars.
James conferred
with the Emperor himself on his home planet of Venom and often times, Andross
sent a delegate to the small human colony.
However, the rebel terrorist group called Echelon V assassinated the
ambassador, which left all but one human rebel dead. That one human, Kronos Recker, was arrested
and charged with murder, conspiracy, and high treason. Tyrell ordered him exiled. When a member of the Colonial Council, David
Recker, Kronos’ father, objected to the banishment, Tyrell ordered the Colonial
Militia to stage an assassination of their own to kill David and his wife,
Rebecca, and made it look like a car accident.
At the same time, he had discovered that his own daughter, Cassandra
Tyrell, Kronos’ girlfriend, and Keith Richards, Kronos’ best friend, were also
involved. While Tyrell pardoned
Cassandra, Keith was arrested.
A day after
Kronos was exiled, Tyrell received a communiqué from Emperor Andross – Terra Prime
would be destroyed by one of his fleets, which would take him aboard and bring
him back to Venom to continue the alliance with Emperor Andross. Relieved to be spared from the destruction,
Tyrell boarded his personal ship, the Terran’s
Tear, and set course to meet the fleet’s flagship, the Iron Claw. Once onboard the
ship, he watched, firsthand, the destruction of the colony he had corrupted and
abandoned. He was taken back to Venom
afterwards. What happened to him after
he went to Venom is unknown, but rumor has it that he is alive and well, and
currently serving a position as one of Emperor Andross’ High Generals…
