Gwen: Alive and Pumping

The fans were going insanely wild as Gwendolyn Renee Stefani, also known as just ‘Gwen’, was finishing up concert at the Orange Bowl Arena, Miami Florida. Patiently, I awaited my long deserved interview with Gwen, for I am also a fan of the lead singer of No Doubt. Gwen cheered on the stage, thanking everyone from God to her fans and as she waved, she was off, drinking a bottle of water the very second. And it was my chance, my chance to finally know the real Gwen. I approached her and I was ready to ask my very first question "Shit! Who the hell kept on the damm 100 beam lights on the whole freaking show!" Gwen was pissed, would it be a good idea to interview this star? Gwen went around asking who was in charge of the lights. I was about to just screw everything and head back to my lab top and latte when I felt a gentle tap upon my shoulder. I turned around and it was Gwen. "I’m sorry, I completely forgot that I had an interview today", I smiled, not sure on what to say. I didn’t say anything until we were in the band dressing room.

Gwen: Alright…shoot

I started to get out my pen and notes

Gwen: First off, what’s your name? You already know mine so I feel out of the loophole

Helen: I’m Helen

Gwen: Alright, nice to me ya Helen

I smiled, and finally, started my long awaited interview

Helen: Gwen, first I need to get some personal, boring information from you

Gwen just smiled, and waited for me to go. So I did.

Helen: When and where were you born?

Gwen: October 3, 1969 in California

Helen: Are your parent’s still alive and well?

Gwen: Yea, my parents are my parents, Dennis and Patti

I laughed; this was going to be pretty fun.

Helen: Got any siblings?

Gwen: Two brothers, Eric and Todd, and a sis, Jill! Hello guys!

Helen: So Gwen how did the whole deal start out? Was it just a weird twist of fate?

Gwen: Well, music as always been a huge influence on my soul. I am mostly influenced by "ska and punk" music and that keeps me alive and pumping! But one day, I brother was just starting the band ‘No Doubt’ and I was just going to be the back up vocals. But then John Spence, the guy who was going to be the lead singer for the band committed suicide and that’s when I took over.

Helen: So it was a little bit of both?

Gwen: You could say that, yes.

Helen: How is No Doubt doing?

Gwen: Great! We just came with our album, Rock Steady and it is doing pretty well

Helen: A lot of your fans are disappointed with your newest release because it’s not ‘real’ No Doubt. What do you say to that?

Gwen: We haven’t change, it is just the same ‘No Doubt’ with a twist that’s it

Helen: So, Gwen

Gwen: What is that evil smirk for?

Helen: What’s the deal with you and Gavin Rossdale, the lead singer of Bush?

Gwen started to blush and got all girly and happy and all that lovely stuff when you think of someone you truly care about.

Gwen: Well, we started dating in December of ’96.

Helen: That long?

Gwen: And even loner

At that moment, Gwen kneels towards me and shows me a beautiful ring. Finally, her words make sense to me.

Helen: You and Gavin are engaged!

Gwen: Yes!

As like we have been friends for years, we started to do a happy dance around, celebrating her engagement. I felt as if I knew this person as well as I know my own two hands. She was alive, and a true, free sprit. We both sat back down; tired from the silliness we let control us.

Gwen: I don’t understand how I am so winded.

Helen: Why you say that?

Gwen: I work out every day! It just doesn’t make any sense to me.

Helen: Ha! Everyone gets winded here or there. Do you really?

Gwen just nodded.

Helen: Damm

::A noise came from outside the dressing room::

Voice: Gwen! You gotta do something

Gwen: Alright alright!

I knew that at that point, my interview was over. Gwen showed me to the door

Gwen: Well, I had a great interview and really enjoyed your company.

Helen: I agree

And that was that, I was out of Gwen Stefani’s life forever. Maybe I would see this middle height, blonde hair, brown-eyed chick from California again. Again meaning not the old tube. But I learned something about her that I would have never known from listening to the radio with the rest of the world. I got to understand who she was and learned that she was just like me. A normal person in a small world, ‘just trying to live a normal, simple kind of life’.
