RESCUE TIPS

An animal's best chance for survival is to be raised by its natural parents. Mother animals who come back to find their babies gone are as concerned, fearful, and sad as human mothers would be. Keep this in mind before you decide to remove them.

DO's and DON'Ts

Children should not attempt to rescue an animal without adult help.

Do NOT give food or water until advised by a rehabber. NEVER give milk to birds or mammals-it can be fatal.

Pick up animals with gloves, towel, or blanket and place it in a box with breathing holes pre-punched. Put the box in a safe, quiet, warm corner or room and cover the box with flaps, towels, or blankets.

Put a hot water bottle in with baby animals, or place 1/2 of container they are in on a heating pad set on low.

An animal neds rescued if it is bleeding, has an obvious broken limb, is very cold, is found near a dead mother, or is in significant risk from dogs or cats.

Raising wildlife takes knowledge and experience. Attempting to keep a wild baby is not only illegal, but it may lead to developmental problems or even death of the animal. Please do not add to the baby's risks if you don't have the proper permits or training.
