Little black radio screams its song
Open notebook revealing a poem
Music and books lay off to a side
Mind too far, takes a joyride
Sky is coloring its gown black
Headphones plead for a bit of slack
Ignore the cry yet set them down
Time to stare into space with a thoughtful frown
Push the homework off the bed
Finish painting my nails red
Favorite song cues its start
Belt it out with all my heart
Try to think but my head's too full
Dates and equations left over from school
Stare at the clock resting on a shelf
Realize that I'm talking to myself
A knock on the door; 'Turn the radio low'
Creativity takes a blow
Flip through a book absentmindedly
Homework glares up, reminding me
Sun is long gone, dark settles in
Late-night tranquility deep within
Completedness, closure, nothing more to say
Except that I survived another day
