luz gruv is an acoustic trio consisting of vocals, guitar and conga that aims to create warm, human-scale music to be enjoyed and understood as much today as tomorrow. With a sound at times reminiscent of Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, A.C. Jobim or Dave Matthews Band, its three members draw on influences such as traditional blues & jazz, Afro-pop, Brazilian bossa nova and American rock to fashion a sound that is distinctly their own. Though willing to utilize fresh and innovative ideas, the trio remains firmly grounded in the strong rhythm of their collective musical heritage.
Formed in the Fall of 2002, luz gruv (called disband initially) immediately began writing and practicing in anticipation of a debut performance that following January. In addition to performing monthly since July of 2003, the group has recently completed its first studio recording entitled Single Moment and is currently marketing this debut CD at shows throughout the Metropolitan area in an effort to broaden its audience and increase its profile within the local music scene.
