Today I planted the
miniature "Palace"  rose that Mary gave me., then sprinkled cornmeal around all the roses and watered it in. The red rose in the front bed is blooming like gangbusters, but the others only have a bloom here or there.

The
Daytona dahlia finally started blooming, and while it's a pretty thing, it doesn't look like the picture on the package. I read an article in Garden Gate about growing dahlia's from seed; I may try it for fun, because they say the seeds often produce flowers different from the parent.

Also in
Garden Gate, I read that what I've always thought was morning glory spreading all over my yard is almost certainly field bindweed. Something nearly impossible to get rid of, unfortunately, as the roots go 10 to 20 feet.

I harvested the first
broccoli head today. It was small, but yummy. One plant had begun flowering, no doubt because of all this hot weather.

The
daylilies are almost all spent; I can't wait to add more. I love the crocosmia.

The
evergreen clematis had some yellowish leaves and stems that I cut off today, also. I'm hoping it doesn't have a disease. I'll have to ask hubby if he's dumped anything funny nearby.
