Viivi Oona Sofia born 15 April 1996, less than a year after our son, Vertti died.
Viivi had severely clubbed feet when she was born. She was given an emergency christening and taken to her first operation at age of 2 days. The surgeon bended her ankles and plastered her from hip to toe to force the feet grow on right direction. At first months the plasters were replaced every week in anesthesia. It was really stressing, because Viivi always got unwell after the operation and we had to stay overnight at the hospital as I was breastfeeding her. And this happened once-a-week! Every time Viivi's ankles were bended a little bit more staighter. She wore plasters altogether 8 months. She got finally rid of them when she was 13 months. And that was the first time I could bath her! The rest 5 months she wore moulded brace shoes of plastic or leather. They had to be worn day and night! Before that she had two surgery operations, where her achilles tendon was cut in half and lengthened. |
