More Things To Do
We spent almost two weeks in Arizona, and went everywhere and we only saw a sampling of all the things to do! We explored Phoenix and Tucson and Camp Verde.... but we didn't take any pictures. If you venture all the way to Phoenix, check out all the art galleries in Old Downtown Scottsdale. And in the same area is a cute soda fountain shop called The Sugar Bowl. We didn't get to spend a lot of time in Tucson, but I know there's tons to do there like the old Tucson movie studios. And Sedona is about 2 hours or so north of Phoenix... I've never been, but I'm dying to go. Anyway, here are some links to other places around Arizona, some really close to Douglas and some you might want to go out of your way for,  just in case you want to explore.
The City of Douglas Tourism Page has lots of good info on things to do around Douglas. Plus it has more "official" info and history of some of the places we talked about like the Chiricahuas.
Tucson Old Tucson Studios
Sedona Scottsdale Tombstone Bisbee
Walter Di Maria's Lightning Field. In New Mexico, about 8 hours from either Douglas or Phoenix. But if you're driving to or from the East it may be on the way. I've heard from many people it's the greatest work of art they've ever seen. You stay one night in a cabin next to the lightning field, the Dia people drop you off in the evening and pick you up in the morning. The website lists the prices... there's a good student discount.
Kitt Peak Observatory. It's about 50 miles south of Tucson. There are daily tours and admission is free. You can make reservations for a nighttime stargazing visit!
Birding in the Chiricahuas. Apparently people come from all over to look at really rare birds. (Kristin has an irrational fear of birds. She was not one of these people)
Columbia University Biosphere 2.  North of Tucson. I've haven't been here yet, but I'm sure it's worth the trip.
The Grand Canyon. It's way up in Northern Arizona. Speaking from experience, it's not that spectacular. The Chiricahuas beat it hands down.
