| Candle magick is a simple and effective way to do spells or rituals. You don't need many tools, and there are no real rules as to what you should and should not do, other than keeping the Wiccan Rede in mind. To do candle magick you will first need to determine your magickal purpose. Is it protection, health, money, ect? Then you will need to choose the right colored candle to correspond with your purose. A list of colors and their meanings is below. I prefer to use un-scented candles, but that is a matter of personal preference. Just try to be sure that the scent will not interefere with your magickal intent. You may choose to incorporate some herbs or stones that will reinforce the candle and your magickal purpose. You should also avoid using candles that have been previously burned. An un-burned candle be less likely to have conflicting energies in it. Next, you will want to cleanse and charge the candle. This can be done very simply by first holding the candle in both hands and twisting your hands towards the ends of the candles, then shake your hand to symbolically remove any negative energies in the candle. To charge the candle you will want to do the opposite movement. Twist your hands toward the middle of the candle. Do these movements as long as you like, until you feel the candle is ready to use. One way to do candle magick is to take a quartz crystal and read the chant below, and at each number scratch the candle with the quartz. By the mark of one, the spells begun. By the mark of two, it cometh true. By the mark of three, so mode it be. By the mark of four, the open door. By the mark of five, the spells alive. By the mark of six, the spell is fix. By the mark of seven, the stars of heaven. By the mark of eight, the stroke of fate. By the mark of nine, the outcome is mine. You would then want to light the candle and meditate on your purpose, staring into the flame if you like. You should usually let the candle burn down completely but this is not always possible, especially if its a large candle. I like to make my own candles, but if I don't have one, the small votive candles you can get at about any store are great for candle magick. Also, the color on these candles goes all the way through, unlike commercial taper candles that are only colored on the outside and are white on the inside. Candle magick is easy and you can adapt these suggestions to best suit your needs and preferences. So try it out and don't be afraid to experiment to find the way you like to do it. |
