| The belief of animality was first introduced to me by my brother. Basically, it is the belief that every person has an inner animal. The person behaves and has the characteristics of that animal. A person can also have more than one animal personality, although one is dominant over any others. Determining a persons animality can be difficult. It works best if youve known the person for awhile, because some of their animal behaviors may rarely be seen. First, take a general look at their appearance. This doesnt always help, but some people have such strong animalities, that it shows on their body and face. Next, consider their behavior in a variety of circumstances. Find a particular behavior that seems to occur more often than others do. Then try to match an animal (mammal, lizard, bird, fish or mythical) to this behavior. Then consider other common behaviors. Do they go with the animal you matched to the first behavior? If not try to find another animal that explains both behaviors. Do not let the negative connotations of some animals affect your ability to determine animality. For instance, I once told a friend of mine that I thought she was a crow or a raven. She was visibly upset until I explained that these birds are known to collect small, worthless pieces of trash such as tin foil balls, and keep them as a treasure. This behavior is presented in her in a slightly different, but very similar way. She collects what other people would call worthless items and treasures them for the memories that they represent. Ravens collect small shiny things, she collects memories. You will not always be able to determine each persons animal, but if the animal you are considering being their animality continues to fit further behaviors, you can believe you have discovered it. Further challenge yourself by trying to find the smaller animalities that may lurk within. Finding your own animal can be particularly challenging. I usually try not to find mine, for I may be looking for behaviors that I dont really exhibit. Most people like to see themselves as some proud and powerful animal that they simply are not. To help find your true animal, try enlisting the help of your friends and family. Once you know your or someone elses animality, you can better understand that persons behavior and predict how they might react in a situation. But never forget that they are not all animal. If they were they wouldnt be human. |
