I was very excited after I learned more about charter schools. I
was impressed that the principal was an educator, and not a corporate manager.
I realized that many of my initial reasons for being against charter schools
were based on my ignorance of what the charter schools were really like.
I like the fact that charter schools are designed to be better supplied
than most public schools. They make sure that the teachers have all
the materials that they need to teach the curriculum. The company
that runs the school uses its huge buying power to save money on things
that it can buy in bulk, which means that there is more money to have more
supplies. The company has a set curriculum, and it makes sure that the
teachers are trained in how to teach the curriculum effectively.
There is also an emphasis on working together with other teachers to improve
the students’ education. I also think that the schools seem to be
better supported than many public schools. The fact that each student
gets a computer to take home is great, because it means that they have
access to all sorts of educational tools online. It also means that
students are on a slightly more level playing field. I think that
charter schools may possibly be a way to help improve schools that are
not doing well, like many inner-city schools.
After learning about charter schools, I am in favor of them, because I
think they offer good educational opportunities to their students, opportunities
that may not always be offered in public schools.
