Characteristics

Curlies have some pretty unusual characteristics. The most obvious features of the Curly are its coat and mane and tail. The winter coat of a Curly is just that curly. It can range from a crushed velvet to a perfect marcel wave, to extremely tight curls. This winter coat sheds out completely by summer, leaving behind wavy or straight hair. Their manes and tails are also curly. Some Curlies shed out their manes and tails. The rest have manes that split down middle and hang on both sides. Their manes as well as their tails can vary in length, from super short to very long. The long mane is a gorgeous spiral. But that isn't all that is curly. They have curly eyelashes, fetlocks, whiskers, and ear hair. There are curlies that foxtrot, or do a running walk. A very special quality that Curlies have is that to most people who are allergic to horses they are not allergic to Curlies.

This is a picture of my Redjamin, notice how his lashes curl up. Also Ellen Bancroft pony's eyelashes do the same thing

Here is some pictures of different manes, The first is Pinyon Pearl, She has a loose wave that splits on both sides. The second is Delanie, who sports the sparse mane and tail look, and yes they can have less than that. Third is Redjamin, he has a tight that splits both sides but also pulls out easy, therefore it doesn't grow real long.

This is a picture of BB Copper Sun, he is a gaited Curly that does a running walk. He is currently owned by Diane Mitchell of Arizona

Here is two cute foxtrotters. The first is Jake, J. Silverheels owned by Sharon Williams. The second is his sire, Sir Patrick MJT, owned by Jackie Richardson.

These are some pictures of recsessive Curlies, they are out of Missouri Fox trotters. Most Curlies are of the dominant type, but few pop up in other breeds. Oddly, they resemble dominant Curlies, not only in build but also they have the same basic personality.

This is a picture of La Doncar Laet's Kitt ABC -1197. She is a recessive Curly Percheon. She is owned by Donna Vickery, but I soon hope to own her. She is one of five registered ABC curly that are also registered Percheons.
