INTRODUCTION The "1920's in America" is a Web Quest that intends to bring this colorful era to life for students in the 11th or 12th grade. It attempts to show the significance of political and economic events to personal life. It devotes a section to the beginning of the Harlem Renissance. It also attempts to highlight other areas of artistic expression that flourished at the time through literature, painting and photography. The image of the "flapper" is also explored as well as the effects of prohibition. This sight is meant to be used as a site which will spark a motovation to further study the era of the "Roaring Twenties." TASK Students will use the information below to choose a person or event from the 1920's. Students should use the links (in blue text) on this page as web resourses. They should also find one other web source through an individual web search through yahoo.com, google.com, or some other web search vehicle. Although the web is an exciting tool for research, information on most topiscs is sometimes incomplete. To compensate, student projects must be accompanies by atleast two other sources from outside of the web.
This icon will link students to two questions regarding their topic. Students should prepare a 1-2 page short essay that answers one of the questions. They will be expected to give an informal 5-10 minute oral presentation that will be accompanied by an artistic project that in some way expresses their topic. (Click here for suggestions) EVALUTION Teachers may use a 80 point system of evaluation that is provided at this site. A seperate rubric for each of the following may be accessed here by the students and the teacher at anytime : 1)the essay 2) the oral presentation, and 3) the artistic project.
