Still Young Eyes

I see the world Through still young eyes But it still amazes And catches me by surprise The hunger, the pain I can’t believe what I see The anger, the hate How can this all be? Children dying And still nothing stops Crime infected areas Where are all the cops? Kids playing with guns And shooting up schools It makes me wonder About all those rules No eating in class No eating in the halls Whatever happened to Making those calls? Teens getting pregnant Messing up their lives Becoming depressed Then playing with knives Children being neglected And even abused Never knowing any feeling Other than being used Fathers leave Mothers cry Leaving their children Only to wonder why Dads working late Mothers’ complaining it’s too hot Their kids? They’re out smoking pot Snorting coke Dropping acid I don’t even remember What it was you did

In her still young eyes I see the pain Many times she has nearly escaped But he has caught her again Year after year Day after day She has tried to leave But love makes her stay She sees the rude glances And notices the stares They all see what's happening But no one seems to care Her most precious gift of life Was taken away so young Her innocence was stolen But her song will soon be sung I am telling you this story Hoping she will cry for help I want to see her still young eyes Come alive with love and hope.
