Samuel Theodore Riffey Sr. was born October 17, 1882 in Virginia, near Gate City.  His parents were John L. and Elizabeth Harrison Riffey.  He had two sisters and three brothers, namely Wincie Ann, Mary Garnetta, Martin L., Clarence and Marion.

The Riffey family moved to Tennessee and settled near Jonesboro.  John L. ran a country store.  The only relative John L. Riffey had was an old man who was part Indian by the name of Chris Riffey.  He was his Uncle and came to their house occasionally as he was passing through on foot.

In 1908 Samuel Theodore Sr. met and married Nannie Kate Morgan whose parents were Robert Love and Martha Webb Morgan from near Bristol, Tenn.  Kate had two brothers and three sisters namely Taylor, Claude, Lula, Fannie and Myrtle.  Kate and S.T. Sr. had six sons and one daughter, Robert, Leroy, Samuel T.Jr., Carl, twins Howard & Horace, James Ray and Martha Elizabeth.  Robert and Sam were born in Tennessee at Grandfather Riffey's near Jonesboro.

Then in March, 1912, S.T. Sr. and Kate moved to Washington, Indiana.  They came at the urging of his oldest sister, Wincie Ann, whose husband, Charles Harrison, said he could get a job on the B & O Railroad.  In March of that same year his young brother, Marion and his mother took the little red german measles.  They both died and were buried there in Tennessee.

The Morgans, Robert, his wife Martha and their young daughter Myrtle are buried in the Webb Grave Yard near Bristol, Tenn.  Robert Love Morgan fought with the South in the Civil War, he was a cousin to JOHN HUNT MORGAN, the General of the 9th Calvary and known as "Morgan the Raider."

Samuel T. and Kate raised their family in Washington, Indiana, died and were buried in Oak Grove Cemetery along with two sons, Robert L. and Samuel T.Jr.  There are fifteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
