Affairs
of Death (PART III of Death)
Story by Daisy
Death is a shadow that veils you like a peaceful sleep...or a nightmare.
Chapter Six
“Jason Hill. Jason Hill. Jason Hill.” Brian muttered the name over
and over as he ran up the stairs of his basement and towards the door.
“Bri, where are you going? It’s past midnight?” Leighanne called
from the den. But Brian hadn’t heard her. He was too caught up in catching the
guy who had killed Kevin and Howie.
Or who he thought had killed them.
Jason Hill was a street thug who had met up with AJ after he had been
drinking. He lived around downtown and sold drugs and was also a pimp. AJ had
been drinking one night and had taken some acid and a prostitute from him,
telling Jason that he’d pay him back later. Afterwards, AJ remembered nothing
of the incident but Jason insisted that it was true, promising AJ that he’d
take him down along with all of his friends. And he was just the kind of guy who
would follow up on a crazy promise.
In a daze Brian ran out the door, not bothering to take his car because
he knew that Jason liked to prowl the streets. He hadn’t even seen the car
that was following him a few streets away.

Ebony slowly trailed Brian, noting that he hadn't taken the car. I wonder where he's going? She thought, turning off her headlights and inching her car along.
After a while, Ebony realized that she could have had her stereo blasting
and her lights flashing and Brian never would have noticed her. He was so intent
on going somewhere and finding somebody.
Maybe he knows.
The thought struck her like a fist and she suddenly slammed on the brake.
The loud, unexpected screeching of the tires made Brian turn back, but his eyes
were unseeing and Ebony sighed with relief.
She followed Brian all the way into downtown. She shuddered at the sight
of prostitutes begging even her to take them for a ride and drove a little
faster when she saw a man with beady eyes staring at her. I might have killed
a few people, she thought, but these creeps still scare me.
She had been so busy watching one man making himself comfortable under a
stack of newspapers that when she finally looked up on the road, Brian had
disappeared.
“Shit!” she screamed, slamming her fist on the steering wheel.
“I’m lost in the ghetto part of downtown and I lost my chance to slaughter
the church boy!” But just as she said that, Brian stepped out of a shadow and
sealed his own fate. He would die that night.

“Hey, pretty boy.” A slimy female voice called from the shadows.
Brian stepped towards the voice and looked into the face of a prostitute. But it
wasn’t just any face.
“I know you!” He said, pointing. “You’re Cherry! You work for
Jason Hill!”
“How do you know that?” The slime had fallen from her voice and she
sounded shocked. “How do you know me?”
“You were there when Jason came to talk to my friend AJ McLean. Do you
remember that?” The girl looked puzzled. It was only then that Brian realized
that this girl couldn’t have been more than eighteen years old and he felt a
pang of pity inside him.
“Can you tell me what happened to Jason?” Brian asked in a softer
voice.
“He got caught dealing.” She said quietly. “They took him in and
locked him up.”
“How long ago was that?”
The girl thought for a second. “Probably about a year ago.” Brian
then thanked her and stepped back into the light. So it’s not Jason Hill.
He thought. Then who is it?
