~~*Chapter Eleven*~~
Brian was crying his eyes out in Morgan’s arms. It was difficult for
him to breathe, sobs were shaking his chest with violence. His face was entirely
covered by tears, he could see nothing. He wasn’t even able to think right,
all was in a muddle inside his head. He only felt miserable, so miserable. The
most miserable boy of this world.
Morgan didn’t say anything during the first minutes. She just let him
cry, she knew from experience that it was good. Then she gently rubbed his back
to cool him down, and it worked. His sobs began to decline bit by bit. Soon he
was weeping calmly against her, sniffing every now and then. Morgan chuckled.
-
I’m sorry, baby, I don’t have any tissue to
lend to you.
Brian smiled, too.
-
It doesn’t matter. I can use your blouse.
-
Sure, do it. And you’ll learn what it is to
get a slap.
She held her tighter and tears progressively
stopped falling. She was playing with the little curls at the back of his head
and he liked that. He felt better because of her.
-
Are you okay now ?
-
I think I am, answered Brian after a moment.
-
Do you want to talk about it ?
He didn’t reply this question. He huddled up
against her and slowly started to talk, his smooth voice still faltering and
muffled because of his sorrow.
-
Lucy was my fiancée. I wanted to share my whole
life with her. I used to think she was in love with me, too. She always told me
that I was her dream boy and I believed her. But on Christmas day… We were at
my parents’ and we were enjoying the party. The vibe was perfect, it was a
really great night. But when came the time to open the gifts… Lucy was nowhere
and I thought that maybe she was upstairs, touching up her make-up or something
like this. I was walking to the bathroom when I suddenly heard her voice, coming
from my bedroom. I opened the door and…
His voice broke with the next words.
-
… She was there. On my own bed. With Richard, who
I used to consider as a real member of my family, although he was only my
cousin’s second husband.
B-Rok was clenching his fists and his face was
tear-stained again. Sadness and anger were dividing his mind among themselves.
-
They were both naked… Her under him… She was
moaning with pleasure… How could she do this to me ? I loved her ! How could
she ? How ?
-
Shh, honey, it’s over now. She’s gone, she’s
never going to make you suffer anymore.
-
She liked “ I Promise You “ and she was singing
it all the time… She said she would love me ‘til death do us part, she
promised me… Lies. All lies.
-
I know…
Always,
forever
All the things she said
Never say never
Those simple lies that she fed
I will never leave you
All the love you thought she had…
But can I blame you ? No…
‘Cause that’s what she said.
Morgan’s singing brought a smile on Brian’s
lips.
-
Right, you’re absolutely right. This song is
perfect to explain what happened. You’d think I wrote it knowing I would met
Lucy someday.
-
Maybe that you really did ?
Wiping his tears with his hand, he smiled a bitter
smile.
-
Who knows.
After a moment, the girl frowned.
-
I don’t hear the others, where are they ?
-
I bet that Kevin’s under this. He’s so caring
with me, I’m sure he wanted to spare me the shame of breaking down in public.
Morgan turned quickly her head towards Brian.
-
There’s no shame in breaking down.
He said nothing. How could she understand how hard
it was to read pity in someone’s eyes ? She probably forgot after one whole
year of darkness.
-
Morgan ?
-
Yes ?
-
Thanks.
She laughed.
-
No need to say it, you know you’re welcome ! Come
on now, we’re going to Cilia, AJ and company. They must be worried about you !
God, she’s so beautiful when she’s happy,
thought Brian as he stood up. A treasure of kindness, comprehension and
loveliness.
Still smiling, Morgan called Bob, sleeping under
the table. Then she took B-Rok’s left arm.
-
Can you help me to make my way ? Don’t I bother
you ?
He grinned mischievously.
-
No need to ask it, you know you’re welcome !
Before entering the reception room, he hesitated for a half-second. What
would he say to them ? But there was no thing to say. Nick immediately rushed
towards him and hugged him like there was no tomorrow.
-
Frick, please, forgive me, I’m so sorry…
Brian noticed that his best friend’s yes were
slightly red.
-
Why, Nick ? What’s up ?
-
I wasn’t there, but it’s never going to happen
again, I swear. You can count upon me the next time you’re in trouble. I
won’t be anywhere but beside you.
-
Thank you, Frack, it means so much to me. But you
don’t have to have a grudge against yourself. I’m ok, everything’s
alright.
Now Nick was relieved. He shook Morgan’s hand.
-
Cilia was right, you can cope ! Thanks a lot,
Morgan. You took care of my nearly big brother so well, I’m extremely
grateful.
She opened her mouth to answer.
-
No…
B-Rok cut her short, laughing.
-
… need to say it, Nick, you know you’re welcome
!
She gave him a nudge and smiled broadly to Nick.
-
He’s so silly, isn’t he ?
-
Yes, he is, replied the blond boy, and that’s one
of the many reasons we love him !
-
Aww, my dear friends… chuckled Brian, making a
funny face.
They all burst out laughing together.
