Sloka 21
Once Kucela, persuaded by his wife suffering from persisting poverty,
came happily to Dwaraka, carrying some pounded rice tied in a piece of
old cloth. O undefeated one! When you saw, all of a sudden, that Brahmin
endowed with unlimited and constant devotion, you were immensely happy.
You welcomed him and engaged him in pleasant conversation.
(Kucela enters by walking from among the audience in the middle of the sloka)
Padam:
Krishna: After leaving the teacher?s home and returning to your home,
you must have married a beautiful woman, suitable to you ?
Pallavam:
O great among performers of Tapas! O Tree of fire to the fire of Brahmateja!
Welcome!
O Wise One! You must be remembering those days of childhood, when we were
staying in the teacher?s home. One day, we went to the forest to gather fire
wood as ordered by our teacher's wife.
Then alas! the dark clouds started showering torrential rain. The sun set
and the world plunged into darkness.
Then joining our hands together, we wandered in the forest for a long time.
Realizing that we had gone to the forest to gather fire wood, the next
day morning, our teacher came to the forest looking for us. Finding us
in the forest, he told us:
?You took a lot of trouble for me, endangering your life in the forest full
of lions. You are endowed with all good qualities and you are capable of
performing any task. Let all your wishes be fulfilled. ?
O My Dear Friend! Have you forgotten all such incidents which took place in
our teacher's home? ?
Sloka 22
You told him all this. Then snatching the pounded rice tied in the old cloth,
you ate a handful. Satisfied and happy, you gifted sufficient wealth to
Kucela. Kucela, satisfied by devotion only, lived in his heaven like abode,
worshipping you.
In the end, atoning for all his sins, he attained salvation in due course
of time.
