Meanwhile, Joey checks up on Mai, but Serenity tells him that she hasn't moved yet. He remembers how Yami Marik sent her to the Shadow Realm, and promises that he shall defeat him when they duel. In Ishizu's room, Yami Marik demands to where Odion is. Ishizu tells him that she doesn't know, and Yami Marik notices that she gave her ring to the pharoah. Yami Marik informs her that without a millenium item, he could easily take over her with the Millenium Rod and force her to tell him, however when he hears that they are arriving at the Alcatraz Duel Tower, he leaves her.
In Bakura's room, Yugi is surprised that Bakura is actually gone. He starts worrying about all the pain he has caused since the Battle City Tournament had started, but Yami blames it on himself, for Marik hates him so much. But Yugi still tells Yami it can't be his fault for the things that he doesn't even remember. Yugi walks out to the Alcatraz Duel Tower, and meets up with Tea, Tristan, and Duke on his way, and assures him that Bakura will be fine.
The gang start walking off, but Serenity tells them that she'll stay onboard to watch over Mai.The others keep on walking, and as they see the tower, they are surprised at the huge size. Seto Kaiba informs them that the tower is where the dueling will take place, and promises Yugi that he will defeat him. Joey gets mad that Seto has forgotten about him,but Seto tells Joey that he will bury him in the rubble that used to be KaibaCorp's weapons.As they walk, Yami Marik appears and asks Seto how they will choose who they will duel in the semi-finals. Mokuba tells him that it'll be announced inside.
As they walk into the tower, the officials tell them to choose between four doors. Joey doesn't know which door to pick, so he starts saying "Eenie, Menie, Minie, Moe", but Seto insults him. After he picks one, Yami Marik quickly walks into that same door. Joey gets mad that he has to choose the last door, while the others assure him that the last door is the luckiest. Tea, Tristin, Duke, and Mokuba then went inside abother room. As Yugi entered his room, he noticed that there was a Card Battle System inside.
Tea and the others marveled at the high ceiling the their room. Joey, Yugi, Seto, and Marik then rose from below them, stopping at a point on the wall that read 4000. Above the point were three other points that read 3000, 2000, 1000. The referee then announced that the duel would decide who would face off in Round Two of the Battle City Finals. The duel would be a battle royal match, so each duellist could attack anyone. Every duellist was for himself. The game would go on until two duellists had lost all their life points. The two losers would face off while the survivors would face off. Tea commented that this duel would be easy since it would only decide who each duellist will duel during the 2nd Round. Duke disagreed with her, saying that the match would be important. He said that the duel would be a psychological game because everyone has a reason to duel another person.
Seto was thinking about how he wanted to duel two people, Yugi and Yami Marik. Yami Marik didn't care who he duelled since all he wanted to duel was kill Yugi. Joey though about the promise he made to Yugi and how he wouldn't have made it this far without that promise. Joey wanted to duel Yugi, but at the same time he wanted to duel Yami Marik so he could save Mai. The referee then said that each duellist much draw a card from their deck. The one with the highest attack would win and start the duel. However, the card that was drawn would not be allowed tyo be used in the duel. Seto drew a strong card, while Yugi, Joey, and Yami Marik all picked eaked cards. Seto Kaiba would start the duel, followed by Yami Marik Ishtar, Yugi Moto, and the Joey Wheeler.
Yugi and Yami Yugi started discussing about who they should target. Yami told Yugi that he had reasons to duel everyone. He wanted to duel Yami Marik so he could save the world. He wanted to duel Joey for the promise they made a long time ago. He wanted to duel Seto Kaiba to finish the ongoing battle between them. Yugi told Yami to target whomever he wanted to.
As the duel began, Seto set a card and then summoned Vorce Raider in attack mode. Yami Marik drew and summoned Newt Warrior in defence mode. He then laughed because of its special ability. Yugi then summoned Big Shield Gardna in defence mode. He then set two cards and ended his turn. Joey then drew and noticed that he had no monsters that level was lower than 5. Since he couldn't summon a monster, he set one card face down and ended his turn. As Seto's turn began again, he ordered Borse Raider to attack Joey's life points directly. As Vorse Raider attacked, Yugi activated a trap card which stopped one type of monster from attacking. Yugi chose warrior, stopping Vorse Raider right in its tracks. Yugi then promised that he could carry out his vow that he made to Joey.
