The Ties of Friendship(2)
As the duel between Yugi and Rebecca continued, Yugi tried to convince Rebecca that Grandpa didn't steal her Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Rebecca insisted that Grandpa took it from her. Grandpa decided to tell everyone how he got the card.
"Many years ago, in Egypt, he was taking part in an archaeological dig in the hot desert. During the dig, Solomon Moto met up with Rebecca's grandfather, Professor Arthur Hawkins and the two became good friends. Unlike most archaeologists, Arthur had very redical theories towards the history of Egypt and its hieroglyphic landguage, beleiving that the Egyptian language had some link to the modern-day game of Duel Monsters. On their quest to discover the truth behind the history of Egypt, Arthur and Solomon found themselves drawn to an Ehyptian tomb with hieroglphic carvings similar to the images on Duel Monster cards. When Arthur presented his finidings, he was ridiculed by other Egyptologists, he persevered in his quest to find the answers. His findings even suggested a link between the Millenium Items and and Shadow Realm, talking of immense duels that took place in another realm to compete for the power to rule the world."
"On one expedition, the two friends found themselves trapped in a caved in tomb. Beleiving they were trapped with no way to escape, they quickly found themselves running low on food and water. As time went on, the two were reduced to their last canteen on water when Arthur suggested that they could pass the time by having a duel. Solomon agrred to the offer and also suggested that the winner should be the one to have the last of their water supply, as there was clearly not enough for the two to share. As the duel began, Arthur played Witch of the Black Forest, the same card the Rebecca played on her first turn."
Fed up with hearing lies, Rebecca insisted that the two of them continued their duel. While Tea, Joey, and Tristin wanted to hear the rest of the stroy, Solomon agreed that it would be best for the duel to continue. Yugi then summoned Catapult Turtle and then played Brain Control, taking over Rebecca's Millenium Shield. The Millenium Shield was launched and destroyed. Summoned Skull then destroyed Cannon Soldier(Rebecca's LP:200). Rebecca wasn't shaken up by the move at all, but seemed more concerned with the number of monsters in her graveyard. Rebecca then played Judgement Blaster and sacraficed five cards from her hand to destroyed Yugi's Summoned Skull. Rebecca then summoned Shadow Ghoul(Original Attack:1600; New Attack:2700).
Yugi was shocked that Rebecca sacraficed all those extra monsters just so she could power up her monster. Yugi tried to explain that each and every card was important, but Rebecca ignored him and told him that the cards were all about power. Determined to teach Rebecca a lesson, Yugi set a monster. Rebecca then played Stop Defence, revealing Yugi's Dark Magician. Shadow Ghoul then destroyed the Dark Magician(Yugi's LP:800). Suprised that Rebecca had the advantage, Tristin asked Grandpa if his duel with Arthur had gone this way. Grandpa informed Tristin that it had, but the outcome of the duel may yet suprise him.
Yugi then played Swords of Revealing Light, stopping Rebecca for three turns. Rebecca passed her turn. Yugi then activated Monster Reborn to revive his Dark Magician. Determined to stop Yugi, Rebecca summoned Cannon Soldier in defence mode. Yugi's Dark Magician destroyed it, raiaing Shadow Ghoul's attack by another 100. Rebecca was still sure that she would win, so she passed her turn again.
Back in the past, Arthur Hawkins made the same play. Realising that Solomon was waiting for a specific card, Arthur hoped that his friend wouldn't draw it. As Solomon drew, he looked at the card and then layed his hand over his deck, forfeiting the duel.
As yugi drew his final card, he did exactly what his grandpa did and forfeited the match. The gang was shocked, but Rebecca was happy. As the monsters in the arena disappeared, Rebecca walked over to Solomon Moto and asked for her Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Grandpa showed her that the card had been torn in half. As Solomon tried to explain, an old friend walked into the arena.
Arthur Hawkins apoligised to Solomon for his granddaughter's behavior. Solomon was suprised and rebecca was too. Arthur took Rebecca to Yugi's side of the field. He drew the top card on Yugi's deck and showed it to Rebecca. Arthur explained that the card was called Soul Release and that with it, Yugi could have taken cards out of Rebecca's graveyard, lowering Shadow Ghoul's attack. The Dark Magician then could have beaten Shadow Shoul and won the duel for Yugi. Rebecca was confused why Yugi forfeited, but Arthur explained that Yugi wanted to show that there was more to winning.
Arthur explained that when he duelled Solomon, Solomon knew that Arthur needed the water more than him, so he forfeited to save his friend. Shortly afterwards, the two were rescued. Arthur explained that he owed Solomon so much, that he gave up his Blue-Eyes. Arthur told Rebecca that even though he played the exact same moves that Rebecca did, he honored every card he sacraficed. Arthur then told Rebecca that duels were about making friends. Rebecca apoligised to Yugi and Grandpa. Yugi then gav Rebecca a special card that he had, The Ties of Friendship. The two became friends and Rebecca now understood about the heart of the cards.
