Meanwhile on another part of the island, Mai had grown bored after beating weak duellists. She wanted revenge on Joey for beating her, when Rex Raptor showed up and challenged her to a duel. She didn't accept and pointed out that Rex only had 5 starchips while she had 8. Mai then changed her mind and told Rex that she would duel him if he did something for her.
As Yugi and Joey look for opponents, Tea and tristin teased Joey that he should search for a monkey to duel, because he might lose to anybody smarter than one. Joey ignored them when Mai showed up. Mai challenged Joey to duel Rex on his own. Joey accepted, but his friends told him not too. Mai then told Joey that if Yugi helped, he would have to forfeit. Joey accepted, but then he had an arguement with Tristin. Tristin walked off. Each player bet two starchips on the outcome of the match. Joey drew both his Time Wizard and Baby Dragon in his opening hand. Yugi then left the arena to talk to Tristin, leaving Tea to support him.
Joey started the duel by summoning Baby Dragon in defence mode. Rex summoned Two-Headed King Rex and destroyed Baby Dragon. Joey summoned Leogun, but Rex destroyed that too with his King Rex. Joey countered with Axe Raider and destroyed King Rex. Rex summoned Sword Armour Dragon and destroyed Axe Raider.
Meanwhile Yugi was talking to Tristin. Tristin told Yugi that Joey needed him, but yugi told Tristin that Joey really needed his best friend supporting him.
Joey played Time Wizard face down and summoned Rock Ogre in defence mode. Rex played Mega Zelger and destroyed Rock Ogre. Joey summoned his Flame Swordsman. Joey found out that dinosaurs are weak against fire attacks. Flame Swordsman destroyed Mega Zelger. Rex switched Sword Armour Dragon to defence mode. Joey destroyed that to and then summoned Swamp Battleguard. Rex then summoned Serpent Knight Dragon and destroyed the Flame Swordsman. Joey then drew Lava Battle guard. At this time Tristin and yugi came back. Tristin told him to play it, so Joey summoned Lava Battleguard. Rex attacked Swamp Battleguard, but Lava Battleguard protected it and deflected the attack. Rex's Dragon was destroyed and he had 810 life points.
