History of Jadgverband 44
To tell the history of Jadgverband 44,one must first give some history on the Messerschmitt Me-262.In 1938,Willy Messerschmidt realized that the age of propeller driven planes had reached its climax. Not much more could be done to get better performane and speed out of the current airframes and powerplants. Also at that time, testing and design had begun on a new propulsion system: the turbine (or jet) engine. So that year,Messerschmitt and a team of engineers started designing a new plane that would utilize the turbine engine. In early 1941,they informed the Reich Air Ministry that they had three prototypes ready for testing.
