Dad wasn't just any man to us, he was "Our Dad."
A man that was big in stature, and hands that were bigger
than most. Those hands were strong and Dad worked hard
to make sure his family's needs were met. Sometimes he
had to work two jobs to get this done. Even though he
worked hard and long hours, he always let us kids know we
were important to him. Every Friday you could count on
Dad to put some special treat inside his lunch pail to surprise us kids when he got home. He took us on vacations
and camping trips as well. He took us to church almost as
often as the church doors were open and he always spoke of
the importance of being born again. He wanted to make
sure each of his children and grandchildren would make it
to heaven. Dad never wanted any strife in the family. He
wanted us to love each other and be close to each other, and
we are!
Dad wasn't one for a lot of expensive material
things, but he did like a nice car. It didn't have to be a new
one, but whatever one it was - it was always clean. He liked
taking care of what he had. He had always remembered the
depression as a kid and so he put much value on even small
things.
Dad took care of his family - good care. He always
thought there were certain things you should do for your
wife and he did them. Like opening car doors, keeping the
car she drove serviced, and treating her with love and
respect. No matter how old us kids got he was always
concerned for our safety. If ever there was bad weather he
would call your house continually until he knew you were
safe at home. He loved his grandchildren and thought it
very important to attend as many of their special events as
possible. He attended their birthday parties, grandparents
day at school, football and baseball games, horse shows and
graduations. He took interest in each new car or truck they
got, and when they grew up and got married he was there
too if at all possible.
He laughed when we were happy and shared in our
sorrows when we were sad. He was always there to listen
whether it was because you had a problem or you just
wanted to talk. He always wanted to know what was going
on in your life. Dad was our friend as much as our father.
He was our advisor and our comforter and we will forever
miss him and keep his memories in our thoughts.
