What Tele-marketers Really
Think About You
.

I recently worked as a telemarketer for a phone company. So, I know exactly what telemarketers go through. I decided it was time for you to hear their side of the story, and what they think about their customers.

When you say, "I already have local phone service with that company." What you are really saying is that you don't realize that they know you are lying because they have the records in front of them on the computer screen.

When they ask for a person and you say, "Who is this? Oh, uh, that person doesn't live here." If he doesn't live there, why would it matter to you who was looking for him? Why lie about it?

When you say, "Stop calling us at suppertime!" How are we to know what time you eat supper? Remember, not everyone eats at the same time of the day. If you aren't inviting us to supper, how are we to know when you're eating?

I've had people actually say, "Of course, they aren't here, only an idiot would be home in the daytime." Those people were home during the day when we called their home, or they couldn't have answered the phone!

I've also had people say, "No, they aren't here. They have jobs!" Naturally, they slam the phone down after they say that. They wouldn't want anyone to tell them that millions of people work nights and are home during the days.

I really love it when I call someone about switching their phone service and they say, "I have a phone." DUH!

I've also had a guy tell me to get a real job. Telemarketing is a real job and, in my case, it pays very well. And it is a very stressful job at times, being nice to mean people who think they are better than you isn't easy.

Then, there are the losers who swear at us because their name came up on the computer in front of us and we asked for them. I guess it's true that first impressions are lasting, because I haven't forgotten what kind of person they are.

We've had people hold sirens up to the phone. Don't they realize that we could actually sue them for damaged eardrums?

There are people who are call us scurvy names. Don't they realize that they don't even know where we are calling from? What if we were calling from down the block? Would they be that brave then?

This is just a little insight to the day in the life of a telemarketer. It isn't a fun job, and the pay isn't much sometimes, but it beats welfare or living on the streets, and for the most part, it is an honest living. So, if you get a chance to talk to a telemarketer, be nice. You could make their day!
