How I Seduced You
-or-
How I Got Past St. Peter

Sometimes you think you are in control, and then you remember...
I got your message and met you deep under the streetlamp
The light filtered down into the milky haze of your face
The two pools you have for eyes, far and black with
That unspeakable devouring of your own heart
I reach into your mouth and grasp your tongue
In a slippery hold
I pull it out and it writhes in my pearl shell of a palm
Turning, a moist noise, into a small seed
That I swallow.
And in doing so, I have rendered you speechless.

My dress becomes gathered at my thighs, a white shine
As though some moon had kissed the flesh there
And the river courses past my ankles to leave sheen puddles
Reflecting around my feet.
On your knees, you mutter against the pavement
And I let my hair down over your face
And in doing so, I have rendered you sightless.

Your mouth blindly gropes against my downy cheek
And I quickly snatch one hand from it's knowing touch
The ground here is wet and smells of past lovers
The trees above groan to the skies in desire and memory
I mate my back to the soil, a muddy salutation
And squeezes between my fingers and seeps into my ears
And I pull you down to bite my shoulder
You collapse with the weight of the water that comes from angel tears
For lovers lost and found, for touch you know but only once.
And in doing so, they have rendered you senseless.

How those snooping coyotes love to watch celestial bodies meet
No skin to hold it in, only extension after extension
Of starry limbs and carnivorous sparks
Swallowing each sweet piece of ourselves whole.
And so now!  Who is who once the bodies are gone?
Bliss outweighs the useless pain of memories
I have found (we have found) (as one will find)
Among the roots of an old, gnarled tree
With the rain in your eyes, and the leaves in your mouth
And the earth so consuming.
In doing so, I have rendered you unreal.

My arms reached the outside of the sphere, but...
It was you who managed to fnd your purchase there
And with your head turned upwards
You reached back for me
Pulled me effortlessly up into the First Cradle
Welcomed me to the womb
And taught me how to breathe here.
It was you who grew the first wings -- speechless,
Sightless, senseless, unreal
No longer flightless
I feel the wings sprouting from my shoulders.
Now I know, I will follow you shortly.
You have rendered me Divine.
