About the Show
What could be better than a show about two redheaded, same-name brothers' quirky world of surrealistic adventures? Not much, that is for sure. The Adventures of Pete and Pete is one of the best shows ever to air on television.
The Adventures of Pete and Pete first aired on Nickelodeon sometime prior to 1991 as 30 second shorts that would air during commercial breaks, in between shows. These shorts were such a huge success that creators Will McRobb and Chris Viscardi were asked to create a longer, full-length episode. And so was created "Valentine's Day Massacre," aired February 9, 10 and 14, 1991. This, too, was a huge sucess, so McRobb and Viscardi created four more episodes, before Pete and Pete was to be made into a series.
The show took off like a rocket, with it's catchy "Hey Sandy" theme song by Polaris. Taking place in the suburban town of Wellsville (in The Sideburn State), the Pete's encounter adventures unique only to their little town. From Little Pete's mischievous plots and plans to Big Pete's psychological struggles with the woes of teenagerdom, there's always some quirky adventure going on in Wellsville.
Though intended to be a kids show, Pete and Pete is not just for kids, but enjoyed by the child-at-heart and anyone who's ever been a kid, as well. It's quirky spin on real life situations puts some of the annoying, petty or aggravating things in our lives into perspective.
The Adventures of Pete and Pete ran three seasons, for a total of 36 full-length episodes. It was canceled in 1994.
The show ran in syndication for the duration of the '90's, and was recently aired on the Noggin channel as part of their "The-N" block for teenagers, but has since been taken off. Pete and Pete may be off the air, but what we learned from it stays with us forever. "Was Artie gone for good? I guess we couldn't know, but one thing was for sure... A part of Artie would always be with us, watching over us, like the heroes in our dreams, like the stars in the sky."
