| I think that the Patriot Act is a wise idea and that under the right leader the country can prosper, but if they have too much power they might misuse it. I think that the argument about whether the president has too much power and that it is threatening the civil liberties of many Americans can go both ways. The president is given money to do whatever he feels is in the best interest of our country, but I think that he should have some limitations. He is doing what is right for our country, but the moment that he or another leader misuses their power they should be stripped of power, or have major limitations put on them. Since King John was unsuccessful at his attempts to defend his areas in Normandy, it led to harsh demands on his subjects. He raised taxes, just because he had nobody there to tell him the he couldnt. A group of industrialists demanded that he sign the Magna Carta. In June 1215 King John signed a charter of political and civil liberties, called the Magna Carta, which placed everyone including him under the law. It was created to help and protect the people; it was to keep any one leader from getting too much power. Some people believe that the Magna Carta influence the constitution of our country. I think the Magma Carta was a great idea and I think it prevented a lot of bad things and a lot of suffering from happening. I think that the Patriot act is more helpful during a time of war. The act helps keep the citizens happy and safe.
I agree with Drew, if we had a terrorist in the country you wouldnt want to have to wait around for the FBI to get permission to find stuff out about him, we would want them to check it out as soon as possible. I think that the Patriot Act does show up mostly in terrorism. Also I dont see why anyone would have a problem with the Patriot Act if they hadnt committed a crime that would be punished by the Act. I also agree with Rory, when he says that the President does have a lot of power, but he doesnt have the power without some limitations. Without the power of the Magna Carta the president would be able to spend as much money as he wanted and do whatever he wanted without consulting anyone about it, but under the Magna Carta he canny do that. I think that if the Magna Carta was not signed by King John in 1215 we would have a very different culture and country today. I believe that our country would be poor and our leaders would be unreasonable. |
