- Italy invades Ethiopia- The League members voted sanctions against Italy for having violated international law. They agreed to stop selling weapons or other war materials to Italy. - Appeasement was another cause of WWII. The other countries developed a policy of appeasement to Hitler�s commands and took no action. - Pacifism was also a reason for WWII. France and Britain realized they needed to stop Germany from their spread of communism, so they believed that they would do anything to make peace. - Rome-Berlin-Tokyo Axis wants an act that these three countries agreed on. It stated that they would not interfere in each other�s expansion. - The Treaty of Versailles was the other reason of WWII. Germany was given harsh punishment for WWI, and in this treaty, it said that Germany had to pay for everything, which they did not agree on but was forced to sign. Effects - The holocaust ended up killing over six million Jewish people. Only at war�s end did they learn the full extent of the Holocaust and the tortures and miser inflicted on the Jews and others in the Nazi camps. - The developed such things as war crime trials. With this, a handful of top Nazis received death sentences. Others were imprisoned. Similar events took place in Japan and Italy. - WWI soon led to the conflict known as the Cold War. The Cold War was a state of tension and hostility among nations without armed conflict between the major rivals. - President Harry Truman outlined a new policy to Congress, which was the Truman Doctrine. This would guide the United States for decades. They stated that the Americans would resist on Soviet expansion in Europe or elsewhere. - By the end of WWII, Germany was defeated. France and Britain were exhausted. United States and the Soviet Union celebrated the finals victories. |
