Rising Action: 1. Vera reveals he story of the tragedy of the open window. 2. Mrs. Sappleton speaks to Mr. Nuttel 3. l Mrs. Sappleton says her husband will be home shortly. Climax: Mr. Sappleton returns. Falling Action: 1. Nuttel runs out the door and flees. 2. Mr. Sappleton and Mrs. Sappleton and brother return with dog. Resolution: Vera tells another made up story. Vera's Name: The irony is the name Vera is that the word vera means truth. This is ironic because we all know that Vera is not at all truthfull. She makes up the story about how her uncle and brother died while hunting to scare Framton Nuttel. Then she tells another story after her uncle and brother come through the window and Framton Nuttel flees. Both of these stories are made up and not truthful, unlike her name which means truth or truthfull. This is the irony about Vera's name. Last Line Irony: Romance at short notice was her speciality. This is the last line in the story and is one of the most ironic statements in the entire story. This line is ironic because throughout the entire story untill the very end you believe that Mrs. Sappleton is completey crazy becuase you have no reason untill the end to believe that Vera is lying. This is ironic becuase in the end nobody is crazy, Mrs. Sappleton really was expecting Mr. Sappleton, and Vera just liked making up stories, or romance, at short notice. |
