1. The Iliad and the Odyssey were poems written by Homer about Odysseus journey home from the Trojan War and the Trojan War itself. 2. Mountains shaped the Greek civilization because they isolated many places on land into smaller communities called city-states. 3. Men were expected to be soldiers and if they were not healthy they would leave them to die. Women were expected to give birth to strong men so they had to exercise regularly. 4. Athens had a legislature which debated laws before approving them. 5. Athens came out from the wars as the most powerful city-states. They created an alliance with other Greek city-states. 6. The war ended the Athenians power. 7. The Socratic method is to question, examine, and observe everything around you. 8. Alexander the Great conquered areas from Southeast Europe to Southeast Asia and Northern Africa. 9. The cultures that were put together to form the Hellenistic civilization were Egypt, Greek, Persian, and Indian influences. |
