The Mercy Seat
Look to the mercy seat
The place where sin and holiness
Clashed head-on
And there was really no fight to it
No great struggle for the holiness of God
To overcome sin
And destroy its power
Neither was the holiness of God
Tarnished
Or diminished
Not one spark of His
Holy fire was extinguished
In the cleansing of sin
How can this be?
How can this be?
Blessed mystery!
Amazing grace!
I cannot understand
But I can accept and rejoice
In a holy God
Whose love and grace abound greater
Than all the sin in the world
I can embrace such a One without fear
Knowing I'll not contaminate Him
But He will change me
Into His likeness!
Yes, I'll look to the mercy seat
In olden days a place on the altar
Where the blood was spilled
But now in these last days
The mercy seat is in me!
For the once and for all time perfect sacrifice
Christ, Himself!
Is residing in me
My living way into the presence
Of a holy God
And a forgiving, healing
Father
