A Heart's Battle

I came to Jesus sorely tried;
"Lord, lift my heart," I humbly cried.
My strength was gone, my soul did weep,
"Where can I rest? Where is sleep?"
Lord, I have tried to walk the way,
Your light doth lead me day by day,
And yet I find my feet to stray.
Why do I pull the other way?
Your ways are perfect, pure and true;
I know the only way is You;
So why do I in stubborn pride
Resist your will for me inside?

Why, when the road gets slightly rough,
Do I decide Ive had enough?
And turn my back on all I know
To be the only way to go?
Why cannot I be more like You
Humble, strong, meek and true?
I try and fail, then try once more.
Will I never win this holy war?
And so I come before You now;
Broken, Lord, I humbly bow;
I know no good within me lies,
But hear me as my heart now cries.

I see the pride that fuels my sin;
Lord, take it, cleanse me from within.
My spirit, Lord, You do renew,
So now what can I offer You?
My humble sacrifice of praise
And all I have, all of my days!
I know this battle wages on
Until my time on earth is done.
So help me, Lord, Your path to choose,
For on this road I cannot lose.
Though battles round may pull me in,
You fight for me, and You will win!

And now this blessing which thine handmaid hath brought unto my lord, let it even be given unto the young men that follow my lord. I pray thee, forgive the trespass of thine handmaid: for the LORD will certainly make my lord a sure house; because my lord fighteth the battles of the LORD, and evil hath not been found in thee all thy days. Yet a man is risen to pursue thee, and to seek thy soul: but the soul of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of life with the LORD thy God; and the souls of thine enemies, them shall he sling out, as out of the middle of a sling. |
