Harden Not Your Heart
Listen to your conscience
please turn it not away,
for it is the Holy Spirit
beckoning you not to stray.
Everyone has a conscience
God created them within,
so He could warn us
when we�re about to sin.
A means to speak to us
with His still quiet voice,
pointing out when we�re about
to make a wrong choice.
God does not force us
to listen or to obey,
but it hardens our heart a little more
each time we turn away.
If we ignore our conscience
too often His voice grows dim,
until eventually we
no longer hear Him.
An unhearing conscience
is a hardened heart;
no longer in salvation
can it choose to take part.
No longer will it hear
God�s loving beckoning call,
or the warnings
that into sin it�s about to fall.
No longer will the knocking
of Jesus be heard;
no longer will you be touched
by God�s Holy Word.
No longer can you hope to see
loved ones who�ve passed,
no longer hope to be
reunited at last.
No longer can you envision
being met at Heaven�s gate,
no longer is your eternal
destination up for debate.
A hardened heart
has made the wrong choice;
a hardened heart
is severed from God�s voice.
A hardened heart has
a gruesome story to tell,
and many will be listening
for an eternity in Hell.
