A Prisoner Set Free

I didn't think I'd e'er forgive
The one who hurt me so;
And all my years of suffering
I wanted him to know.

My heart grew cold, my joy was gone,
As I wept bitter tears;
And all I thought of was revenge,
Through many dismal years.

Till finally I realized,
If I could not forgive,
I'd always be unhappy, and
I'd never fully live.

The Bible says that Jesus died
To cleanse my heart from sin,
And He forgave each sin of mine
The day I asked Him in.

And so He took my hurting heart
And gave me one brand new.
Because I'd been forgiven much,
I knew what I must do.

At last I truly did forgive,
To set a prisoner free.
Imagine my surprise to find,
That prisoner was me!

And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying, So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him. And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.
( Genesis 50:16-18 )(KJV)

To be happy is to forgive.
